Bio

Dr. Yu Seung Kim is a staff scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), USA. He received his B.S. degree from Korea University in 1994 and his Ph.D. degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 1999 in the field of Chemical Engineering. He spent three and a half years from 1999 to 2003 as a post-doctoral fellow at the Chemistry Department of Virginia Tech. From 2003 to 2005, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Materials Synthesis and Integrated Devices (MPA-11) at LANL. In 2005, he was appointed as a staff scientist in the same group, where he has conducted research related to materials for electrochemical systems. In addition to his research effort, he mentored a number of students and postdocs. Dr. Kim is an expert in fuel cells and electrolyzers. His research interests include polymeric materials for membranes and electrolytes used in the electrochemical devices. In 2014, Dr. Kim received a Special Recognition from DOE Assistant Secretary, David Danielson for his Tech to Market efforts. In 2016, He received a prestigious US DOE Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Award in recognition for his outstanding contributions to alkaline membrane fuel cell R&D. He has credits of 25+ US patents and patent applications and the three-times awardee of LANL Outstanding Innovation Technology Transfer Awards. He published ~ 100 articles and book chapters for which he received over 15,000 citations with an h-index of 46. Dr. Kim currently leads the Membrane Working Group of US DOE Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office.
